Again I love the fact that my husband wears a kilt. Yes he gets alot of attention from women mostly, some guys who aren't man enough to suck it up and show their heritage. Even on St. Patrick's Day at an irish pub he got more attention than normal as he was the only one wearing a "real" kilt. Other guys had on pseudo kilts-not wool, not made right, not a tartan. They didn't get as much attention as my husband. My husband even got into a "discussion" with an idiot who grabbed our daughter, not sure if there was intimidation involved since the idiot was with his father-in-law, who stupidly defended him and had to be restrained by our oldest. Would you mess with a guy in a kilt? I do because I can, he is my husband and I am proud that he is secure enough and literally doesn't give a good flippin' damn who have a problem with it. There are numerous instances of other nationalities whose native garb is borderline dresses and such. Does your wife have a problem with them? No, I am pretty sure she has more of a problem with women being forced to be covered head to toe, barely able to see, or being confined to their homes because they don't have a male relative to be with them out in public. Distract her from the fact that you wear a kilt by bringing up other nations male dress attire. Hell, take her to the place that the women wear "kilts" that from what I have seen are not even 6" from waist to hem. That should do it. Good luck.
