In my real world experience at weddings around here, outdoors or otherwise, you are pretty unlikely to see jackets or ties of any kind on the guests anyway.
Points taken re: the climate and local custom, but spats? I personally don't care for the mixing of militaria and kilts in a civilian context, but wouldn't they be rather hot along with the hose tops for the conditions? Why not a pair of Bermuda knee socks ie tropical weight knee socks. The English Sports Store in Hamilton is the only purveyor left I know of since Trimmingham's closed. Available in a plethora of colors, and I'm sure they will ship to Texas.

I believe the spats are part of the OP's personal style. Not so much something up for debate, rather just part of what he enjoys wearing. (Much like the kilt itself for many of us...)

I really cant wait to see the look on her face. She (or the other guests for that matter) have never seen me when I dress "to the nines" except when I wore my Cracker Jacks. Usually its an old Misfits or Iron Maiden shirt, and work boots.

I decided to go with the Edzell tartan because it is a lot more low key than my usual Royal Stewart. It is her Day and I do not wish to detract from her. But her last name is McFarlane, so I do not expect to be the only Kilted man in attendance.
Maiden?!?! I just got my Final Frontier Japan event shirt in the mail. I'm wearing it and my Albannach tartan kilt today- going hiking.

You'll find that I'm an equal opportunity advocate I just really enjoy seeing everyone's personal style. As for myself, I keep it pretty simple so I appreciate more daring outfits.

I really appreciate all comments and thoughts. I do tend to have a pretty aggressive style of dress, even when I am "spiffing up", so I understand that some people might not "get it". Seeing as how this is the wedding of a very close, and dear friend, She expects me to be me, and would be rather offended if I was anything but. She would see it as me conforming, and being superficial.

Bare in mind that I detest kilt hose, personally, on me. I have a very large calves, but small ankles. The spats actually help to even out the proportions and keep my calves from looking like state fair turkey legs.

plus, i just think they are spiffy. I could wear white kilt hose, if you prefer?
