A fantastic kilt in a beautiful tartan by a fantastic kiltmaker. The way you wear it prompts me to ask a question that often pops into my head. When wearing a tie where does the tip fall? Or do you just tuck it into the kilt as shown here?
Let YOUR utterance be always with graciousness, seasoned with salt, so as to know how you ought to give an answer to each one.

Yup, from another Tewksbury owner, I agree Barb does just top notch work. That's a fine looking kilt. Good choice on jacket and hose to go with it.

I generally tie my necktie a bit shorter than when wearing trousers, but it still usually overhangs the top of the kilt by an inch or so. I've gotten into the habit of tucking the tip in the top of the kilt to keep it from flapping around when I'm not wearing a waistcoat. Not sure what others do...

I also tie my neckties shorter for wear with the kilt. One thing that helps control the length is using different types of knots. A half Windsor, full Windsor, or even a double four-in-hand (eight-in-hand?) all use up more length than a standard four-in-hand. If the narrow end of the tie is too long, I tuck that into my shirt, between the buttons. Without a waistcoat, I use a tie bar clip to keep it from flapping around.

It's nice to know there's such a handsome kilt in the neighborhood.
Congrats to you and to Barb.

Is that the tartan I saw you with in the Post Office that day?

Very nice David congratulations, you and the kilt both look splendid! What tartan is that??

Regarding ties, my dilemma is that for me to get the front part of the tie to the top of the kilt, where I prefer to wear it, the back part (narrow end) is below the front part. I recently remedied that on two ties by cutting about 3 inches off the narrow end, and having my local alteration shop sew the end back up. Seems to work well.

    Best regards,

    Brooke

Interesting solution. Like CMcG, I just tuck the long narrow end inside my shirt placket.

Nice solution. Are they still long enough to wear with p@nts? If not, that would be an alteration I could ill afford given that my small stable of ties need to do double duty...

If David doesn't mind a slight hijack,

Yep they are. I could see a problem if the the retainer loop (sorry don't know if it has a real name) in the back was lower so that, after the alteration, the narrow end no longer reached it, but I guess at that point you could have the loop raised or tuck it in your shirt when wearing trousers.

Oddly enough, I find that I wear a tie with the kilt more often than with trousers!

Just experiment with how much you need to loose on the narrow end while wearing a kilt, mark it with a piece of masking tape small safety pin etc., and see if it still works when at trouser length. Or, of course, the reverse mode would work while wearing trousers, see how much you can loose and still make it through the loop thingy.

It's still a nice kilt David
