Come speak your grease, String, if you're not too busy knitting.

** And I saw your post about the dial-up in the knitting thread a while ago. Glad you're Ok, and hope to see you back on line soon.
    Grease out
I am out of the dial-up land, I moved back on campus on Friday, but I've been umm... distracted. Yeti finally got home and he spent the weekend with me. Most native reenactors that I know are poor and don't have access to actual bear grease (although some do and use it) many use mineral oil as the base for their paint. The cleverest substitute was sunscreen because it washed out of the clothes perfectly.

    Some pics of my "work"

Jayd, he's actually got a clean shaven head so I ended up gluing on his hairpiece every morning.

Scott, I didn't do the design, just the back of the neck and other spots he couldn't see.

Jeremy, affectionately known as "Mom," he won't let me do the designs either sadly, But he and I have an unspoken agreement, If he makes sure I survive every event, eat, breathe and all that (camping + asthma = much fun). I will make sure he also survives, and carry his firewood and such as he has a degenrative bone disease in his spine and just can't do all he used to, although he tries.

I personally am not a native reenactor, I actually portray a white spinster (the profession not the marital status) and weaver. The guys refer to me as border trash.

I resemble that comment. My hair is cut close because the Army wants short hair. In my mind, my hair varies between being clubbed like Daniel Boone or being a long braid to my backside to make a worthy trophy like Lewis Wetzel. I do part time farmer, hunter, and brigande. Of course, the matchcoat is sort of kilt like.

With all the talk as of late about Native reenactors I thought if anyone is interested you might wish to check out the following eGroup:
    http://groups.yahoo.com/group/EWT_List/?yguid=309956929

...this is the home of the Eastern Woodland Trekkers (EWT). The EWT is dedicated to 18th C. Eastern Woodland (Native) Reenactors who are interested in Historical trekking, etc. They do discuss alot of related topics, including scalplocks, bear grease, clothing, etc.

    Just thought I'd mention it.

You know, I've been calling that black shadow tartan on the SWK heavyweight wool kilts, the "Darth Vader Tartan" for a long time. He didn't have hair though...
I think I would want a poster of Vader sitting at a cafiteria table with a styrofoam cup and a cigar; 3CPO sitting next to him. That's what I'm hearing with my third eye...

** It was pointed out that I misspelled C3PO in this post. I stand corrected, but leave the misspelling for the record. So let it be heard; so let it be written.

Well...with that idea...lets drop the cigar and give him a cigarette, instead. I about said a pipe, but that's too fancy for Vader. A cigarette says "bad boy."

Oops, it is C3PO. LOL! I'll go attach a correction, thanks. Oh, and he didn't have hair either.
