If wool doesn't "melt" it might be your only recourse, my kilt is a 16oz wool that is 57 or so yrs old and it still looks great, and I rarely trust it to a dry cleaner, I dont want it falling apart on me.

Dread,
I know leather kilts are even more expensive than wool kilts, but they do give top value over time.
Don't know about back there in the muggy south, but out here in the canyonlands my leather kilts are still wearable in the heat.

Dread, what about a removeable hemp liner? It could be rigged to tie in, or snap in, or something like that? Do you melt wool blends as well? Dang, that's a tough one.

Um, Dread? Have you talked to a doctor about this? Excessively caustic sweat can be indicative of a host of other health problems.
Just as an example, I seem to have stopped corroding metals that have been in contact with my skin since I lost close to 100lbs. (I'm 195.5 today, down from a high of about 285ish around this time last year.)

I have. It is likely a result of my diet. I eat HOT foods. Kung pow tofu and shrimp, curries, habenaro hot sauces, etc.
I have always been like this, but the effect has become worse since moving to a diet of mostly veggies. I have however, done this since I was a kid.
I am looking forward to living for a while in hemp. Hemp is amazingly acid resistant.

You should talk to your doctor. Having overly acidic sweat can be a sign of a hormonal imbalance, or some nutrition deficiency. My ex had that problem. He played guitar and the sweat and oil from his fingers would erode the strings. He spoke to his doctor who recomended a change in diet and a special vitamin supplement that fixed the problem. It would also help to drink loads of water.

A change in diet perhaps? It could be that you eat alot of acidic foods and your just sweating out what you dont need. Or you know, you may just have some nuts proteins in your sweat.
