I agree completely. The kilts Jerry sells are truly a great value. And I would not want to see them go away.

Its not a secret that all Stillwater kilts are make in Pakistan. Jerry is not a kilt maker, he's a seller/importer.

The Frugal Corner seems to have the same or similar sources of production, and their quality seems comparable.

What has drawn the wrath of many on this forum on their heads was their abysmal customer service. (I was fortunate in this area, they were very cooperative with this scatter-brained kilty ). If it wasn't surmised, the fact that they were explaining some of their problems on the political turmoil in their country of production a year ago helped clarify that point in many peoples' minds.

Yet it seems to be commonly agreed that, with their customer service starting to improve, they are a good source for supplying our addiction.

I'm not saying everyone should do this - all I'm saying is that is what I do. And I like to know where something's made before I buy it.
As Hospitalier mentioned earlier, the topic of "country of origin" has been pretty much beat to death on the forum over the years.

At this time, you will not find a product of comparable quality that is made in the USA at a comparable price point. That's it. If finding a USA made kilt - and I'm talking both the FABRIC and the finished kilt - is important, get your checkbook out and start googling "custom woven fabric". When it comes to buying American you have to face the fact that you win some and you loose some. A careful reading of the great Scottish Economist Adam Smith's "The Wealth of Nations" will help make the concept of a Global Economy much more palatable. If "Wealth" itself looks too daunting, try the PJ O'Rourke (a very dedicated political conservative even though he worked for National Lampoon) "On The Wealth Of Nations" which is a very good modern interpretation of Adam Smith's magnum opus. (The PJ O'Rourke is probably available remaindered in hardcover and I just checked my paperback edition and can happily tell you that it was "Printed In The United States of America" in case that makes any difference to you.)

Some time back, Jerry posted a couple of photos of the Stillwater workshop out East there and it looked like a pretty reasonable place and not some kind of post-Dickensian workhouse. I have a couple of Stillwaters and I think that everything's fair all the way around the supply and demand chain.

Just console yourself that the term "balance of trade" always works out to be just that: a balance.

Does he also import latex and latex-related products? And does he work for Vandelay Industries?

Its true Jerry makes no bones about where his kilts are made. I even remember a thread now several years old where he shared photos of the facilities and kilt makers.

Obviously - everyone can spend their money any way they choose - it is their "right" and I suspect we would find a broad range of opinions on this subject here at XMarks. Personally I believe Jerry's kilt's represent a real value for anyone interested in wearing a kilt - and that's my right.

Cheers to all - and have a fantastic day - in a kilt!

What if all of the work conditions were up to par? What if the people making the kilts in pakistan were just trying to feed a family and keep a roof over thir heads? What if they are just like you and I, only they live somewhere else? Not all people are bad people when it comes to the country's around that area. Let's all just open our mind to the best of possibilities when it comes to the workers that make stillwater kilts. By the way I own a black heavyweight and it is amazing and i will be buying more kilts from them.

Didn't have the foggiest. Would have like to have known, though. Now I do.

Again, let me remind everyone that I have no complaints with the quality of Jerry's products.
