I tried this as well. 65 kilts later I can say it does not work.

Now I was firmly in the 'stick with black and all that will go with it' camp, until the other day when I saw some brown mock suede and for nine pounds sterling came home with a kilt's worth.
It goes with green, after all - I just need to get some tan footwear, and a brown belt, and some more green hose as the last pair I just found eaten into holes, drat those varigated carpet beetles.
Should be fine.
No problem.
I could even go back and buy some of the other brown, to go with darker green things, just for more balance in the colours in the wardrobe.

Certainly a good rule that I should like to follow myself. Well, I have just ordered a new kilt, Gunn weathered tartan, but NOW I have stopped buying more kilts.

I keep any addiction (mostly) in check by a) limiting myself to family tartans and b) making most of my kilts myself. That second one really cuts things down, but now I look for fabric to make kilts out of.

That wouldn't help me. As the family genealogist, I've traced direct ties to more than 75 clans. And as each clan usually has more than one tartan, plus district tartans for the clans, it gets ridiculous pretty quickly.

Do not fight. Do not object. Surrender. Surrender to the kilt!
Besides, it only becomes a problem if you find yourself singing "Brigadoon" on old, historic bridges and when grocery shopping....

If that should ever happen, promise me that someone will slap me until I snap out of it...please....
...on the other hand...maybe the sun did give me the power to swim Loch Lomond and be back in half an hour...

The only way to get the song out of your head is to sing it loud and proud. (possibly in McLeod??)
