'Wears' your tie?

I try to tie it in such a way that it falls just to the top of the buckle. Sometimes this means a loose, slightly wide, knot at the neck.

With the kilt I tend to wear either a bowtie for formal events, Ruche tie for semiformal and some daywear, or tartan tie for daywear. With the exception of the bowtie, I tuck my ties into my waistcoat, which I virtually always wear with my coat. Being 6'5" tall with a belly like a bowling pin means that if I didn't tuck it in or didn't wear a waistcoat I would be giving off the Laurel and Hardy look with my tie tips well above my belly button, and therefore well above my belt or kilt. Not the best look on me.

Top of the buckle for me- or where that approximates. I was never able to get my bowtie to extend that far, though.

About the only time I wear a tie is at Masons and then my coat is closed and the apron goes over all so it really is a moot point. If I had to make a choice it would be top of the buckle but that is a hit or miss proposition since I'm a really poor tie tier. Maybe bow ties are for me!

When I wear a tie with the kilt, it is either with a waistcoat, in which the point does not go south of the vest (there's no belt), and with a piper's shirt for piping. In the latter case, if I am not wearing a waistcoat because it is so bleeding hot and humid, then I tuck the tie into the shirt opening between the second and third button. You may wonder, if you care, if the tie gets soaked with perspiration. Yes a bit, but I wear an undershirt and the tie is a particularly cheap one that I wear just for such an occasion...when it is so bleeding hot and humid.

This my vote also! My ties extend down past or over the buckle, not a good look with a waistcoat. I tuck it in my shirt.

This is an old habit from working food service for many years. Tuck your tie when handling food, pull it out when your back in the dining room. The tie will stay clean and hide any small stain on the shirt. Remember, shirts cost less to clean than ties. (Dosen't have anything to do with the subject. Just thought I'd through it in.)

Meh...I really don't wear ties much anyway...more of an academic discussion, really. But I know that tie length differs with a kilt due to it being worn high, just how much is the question.

It is interesting to note that if I wear a tie and a kilt, I'm often asked "What's the occasion" or something to that effect. But if I wear a tie and slacks, I never get a comment.....
