I recall seeing a man at the highland games in Maxville, Ontario wearing riding boots with a kilt. He had the hose folded down over the top. It really looked rather odd to me.

I just remembered I have a pair of knee length 'converse-lookie-likies' that I bought for a tenner and wore out with shorts once to win a bet.

    Never worn them since mind!!

I'm betting now that they wouldn't work with the Kilt either. Must give it a whirl when I'm next home though. I'll post pictures for your consideration.

Actually I think Derek has a pair of tall converse doesn't he?

Now, riding boots? Nope - I can't imagine that working well at all, but how about a good old pair of wellies?

Actually, you can lace them up above mid-calf and then fold the top down. Probably scrunch the sock as well. For a very modern look, of course....the above attire would need to be the same vibe, though.

    You could wear a hoodie!

I have a pair of custom over the knee replica cavalry boots from Cavalry Regimental Supply. Tried them on one time with my leather RKilt. Found the knee guard part of the boot top fouled with the hem of the kilt - even the leather kilt. Near impossible to walk in...and, at least in the mirror, looked too weird even to take a joke photo of.

The boot tops can be turned down out of the way of the kilt hem but the inside is tan and it gives that after the fire firefighter look or a pirate look...

Now, on horseback they might work a lot better...

I agree with the vast majority on this one. Riding boots don't go with the kilt.

    My thoughts, exactly.

I'd wear lace up boots that high with a kilt and be quite happy to, IF I could find any that weren't lineman's boots with the steel toe, tall heel and heavy shank support. Mostly it would be a shop thing, to keep from burning the front of my socks and shins with forge scale whilst working at the power hammer making damascus. I like knee length moccasins even better, but haven't been able to find any (so far) that will hold up to my use (abuse) of them.

Riding boots are open at the top, however, and hot slag down inside the boot is worse than just being burned from not having the coverage at all.

So I have a couple of kilts with small pinholes, and matching hose.

    Howard,

Sounds like logger's boots might fill the bill -? Think they might be called "corks"

While it could be done it would look best with a pair of custom fitted buckle riding boots which are pretty much skin tight.
Like this with hose tops folded over the top...

Otherwise the loose fit at the top will take away from the general look.
If you are actually wanting them for riding in, might I suggest Roper boots instead?

    Or some smokejumper boots...
