Just as a matter of interest what regimental bar are you drinking in? And for what is worth I dont think its ever unbemomming, should have seen the sate some of the officers were in last year
They sent us to Pompey, I would not live here for any other reason - its a dump.
I'll be in the AMS bar - but I'm RVing with the rest of my Regt (all 12 of us) in Knellar Hall in the morning to watch the vets and the ladies. I may have a warmer or 2 into the bank there as well - especially as they charge very reasonable rates compared to Twikers.
I plan to move onto the Patch for post match conviviality. ith: I have also been wondering about suitable headgear. Being folically challenged I need to wear a hat to keep off the sun. I may go for an ACU jungle (boonie) hat or I could get out the pith helmet.
PS: I don't remember the state anybody was in last year - I don't remember a great deal after about midday. There were some interesting photos on ARRSE. Fortunately none of me.

The 'Eathen in his idleness bows down to wood and stone,
'E don't obey no orders unless they is his own,
He keeps his side arms awful,
And he leaves them all about,
Until up comes the Regiment and kicks the 'Eathen out.

We live in a world and culture largely manipulated and controlled by fear. This messes with your head, but in the end you have to move through it and not let it control you.
It may very well be that one of the reasons you are attracted to kilts is to help you overcome some of the fear baggage and crap that you have been programmed with all you life by your parents and your peers.
Working up the gumption to wear the kilt whereever and whenever you please is one way to work through it. Viewed that way, it is a challenge to yourself.
The gold at the end of the rainbow is that over time, you will feel completely comfortable wearing the kilt and well, you may need to look for another big challenge like rock climbing.
(Just don't wear you kilt when you do that) ;)

Nascar
I've not taken the time to read all six pages of responses, yet. I expect I will eventually.
My fiance's father takes several family members to the second-tier NASCAR series race held at a track up the road from us (about a forty-minute drive, save for race day traffic). He has suggested that my kilt may not be a good idea in that venue, simply because of the inebriated race fans and their (presumably) unfortunate attitudes.
Lovin' the breeze 'tween m'knees!

I don't fear wearing the kilt as I just let the stupid comments roll of my back like water off a duck's back.
Do some off you gage the situation and avoid wearing the kilts to some places?

I've been nervous when wearing my kilt out. Never afraid to do so, though.

I wouldn't say I've been "afraid" when wearing my kilt. I think in the spirit of what previous posts have indicated, I've worn my kilt to places where I knew I would have to exercise a little more "situational awareness." However, I have NEVER felt in actual physical danger - just an easy target for the (REMARKABLY FEW) negative comments usually spewed from alcohol-saturated bumpkins. On a few occassions I have opted to not wear my kilt as I didn't want to attract the inevitable attention. Sadly, I usually end up wishing I would've worn it anyways!

Like Green Dragon, nervous but never afraid. Actually, the most nervous I've been so far has been when I decided to wear my Black Stewart to WalMart. Got some stares and a couple of questions about tartans and their meaning, but that was it.
