You can send me the ripped sporran and I will salvage it! lol. Sorry to hear that man, it sucks when you put a good amount of work into a project and it is lost. Looked great though, really nice work so far.

The work looks excellent thus far, though. I have to tip my hat to your craftsmanship!
I wonder if you could use a more stretchy material for the gusset that would still look pretty close to what you had intended. I know there are some materials out there that look like leather but stretch generously. They tend to be thin, but could be doubled or tripled in layers to provide enough stiffness for functionality while still being stretchy enough for the inversion process.
I'll be honest, I wasn't pleased when I heard the tearing
It wasn't totally unexpected (as you can see from my original post), but still wasn't too welcomed.
I thought about using a softer, stretchier leather for the gusset, but didn't want things to get deformed during the inversion and remain baggy afterward.
As for synthetics... I just can't do it. Leather is nearly forever. Synthetics all have a 'sell by' date. Stretch vinyl and other things just don't cut it with me, and frequently can't handle a stitch a tight as I do for leather. They just end up tearing through.

Thanks Shaun. 12Mk2 is already under way. Panels are dyed, glued, oiled and curing right now. I'll sand edges to start the burnishing process tonite. With a touch of luck, by Sunday PM I'll be back to where I was yesterday.

That's a huge understatement, from where I'm standing.

Artficer,
I can still feel that tear happening.......one on the sporran and one on the inside!
Condolences!!
What would happen if you made the sporran by the same method, but fitted a loose liner inside,...stitched in only at the top?........Easier to turn?........or wet it for turning?
Ryan Ross,
I love your avatar!!

I thought about partially stitching the gusset, then inverting, but the clearances are too tight for me to do a really nice, even saddle stitch in there with my giant meat hooks.
As for wetting it, I could, but again am afraid of the permanent deformation that may occur, both to the gusset and even the body panels.
I think 12Mk1 was just a 'stitch too far'

Thank you very much, sir! My father took that shot; Abigail and I were walking behind the Scottish Tartans Museum, during their annual Taste of Scotland festival, and had no idea that we were being photoed.

I'm in on hurry at all, Scott, so no worries on that point- I just fell awful for you, as I know how terrible it feels to have a long labor nearly completed, only to meet with a...setback.
EDIT: I've decided to name this sporran Lugosi; I'm in the habit of naming my sporrans- two of my Britts are named Pepe and Bambi, and the third is still waiting for a name to settle in . I'm going with that name because the black and red reminds me of Dracula's cape, and because this sporran can't be killed!

Setback... more like reset
I actually like doing a Mk2 over a first run, as I always end up refining some dimensions a bit to make things a little cleaner and tighter.
