Looks great. It should be able to take you many places, both dressed up and casual as in your photos. Good luck with your next.

Nice kilt, and I'll second the comment about the nice woodwork you are standing on.

Looks good. What is the material you are using, and how many yards? The soft grey colour is very effective.
I think you echo the experiences that most of us have--we probably all get heckled, but the positives far outweigh the outbursts of the bifurcated masses.....
Looking forward to seeing photos of your next project.
EPITAPH: Decades from now, no one will know what my bank balance looked like, it won't matter to anyone what kind of car I drove, nor will anyone care what sort of house I lived in. But the world will be a different place, because I did something so mind bafflingly eccentric that my ruins have become a tourist attraction.

Looks great! It reminds me of the Hodden grey kilts worn by the London Scottish in World War I.

Well, there's a reason I titled the post as "First successful kilt"
Before this one, I had a couple of attempts that I deemed unsuccessful for various reasons.

I've seen heavy wool military blankets in the thrift stores and thought about it a bit. Don't know if they'd be too heavy. If you go for it, I'd love to see the results.

Re: My first (successful) homemade kilt
Congratulations! That is a fine, fine kilt. It looks splendid to my eye. You must not be too critical of your work--I tend to be very critical of my own--you have worked through whatever obstacles or imperfections occurred, and had to make a compromise here or there because some things didn't go exactly the way you wanted--you know all of the "flaws" or compromises that took place, and sometimes that can blind you to the quality of what you have produced.
I assure you that we don't see those flaws that you can't help focus on, our eye reads "Kilt", and nothing less. A well made kilt that fits exactly is what we see.
I predict that you will have many years of kilted enjoyment ahead. Cheers!
