It must be the picture. I guess it would fit a 36-38 which would have been a reasonable Medium back then. Ref the buttons - see para 2 of #4.
Yep, and the inside but that's not the point of the question. There's one very obvious feature.

It has a tie down for the upper half of the plaid on the left shoulder. Sorry, I don't have a better name for it.

It would appear that the front is bias-cut and the back is straight. Is it one continuous piece with no side seam?

So is that a lining, then? Because the tartan showing from the backpiece of the jacket (just under where the front tapers away) doesn't just "appear" to be straight cut. The lines showing are definitely horizontal and vertical.
