I think the worst I will get is teased, I go to a magnet school and a fight gets you out of the school and no one really wants that.

But I guess your right though, I'm relatively new to the school. Maybe I should wait a little bit.

I can totally understand that aspect. I don't where my kilt everywhere. As much as I hate to admit that I've been intimidated from wearing it somewhere, my grandparents live in the country and many of their neighbors are less than open-minded about most things. I know my father was worried about me wanting to wear it there and I'm a (semi) grown man. But don't worry; even if you can't wear it now for everything (turn, turn, turn) there is a season (turn, turn, turn). (I wonder how they ever came up with such wonderful and orignal lyrics)

I have only seen one man in a kilt here. I am afraid he will get teased or beat up. I think that is all. I told him to wear it around after school and to games and other activities to give the ignorant a chance to get used to it. sound reasonable?

Your dad said it would be a distraction. He is probably right. Maybe not for you but for others. Follow your dad's advice he wants you to succeed and get a good education. There is plenty of time to wear the kilt after you graduate.

I think you have a lot of good advice here, bide you time, you have the rest of your life to wear the kilt-- its not worth making an enemy of your Dad.

Nighthawk, it takes a crazy man to be a father and... what you are. I would say that you are balanced, and that's what you have to learn in this world. You have to re-learn it sometimes to. You spoke the truth, and that is good.

    BTW
I know it hurts to hear that you are balanced, but you said what you said.

When I was a teen and my parents had reservations about my doing something, I would usually do something 10 times more extreme so that we would compromise in such a way that I would get what I wanted from the beginning, and they would be grateful that I was happy with that. It has never been easy training parents.

So, in your case you might annouce that you have decided that wearing a great kilt with targe and your face painted blue to school, or a toga, or full Viking regalia, or dressing like a geisha is what you really want to do, or put up lots of posters from Rocky Horror Picture Show in your room, and then compromise on wearing a simple kilt.

    Just a thought

    Food for thought:
I wish I still had a Father to argue with.

Just so I don't go out on a limb, I'll say this. I do not have children and intend to not have children. I don't know anything about raising children or being a father. Don't look at me, I didn't do it.
