Those are incredible-you are an artist, String!
I once knew how to crochet, but I have always been in awe of those who knit. It seems like such a wonderful OCD hobby, maybe I should take it up (in my copious amounts of spare time).
I know that Panache will soon start to pester me to buy him a pair! So, as soon as I can save up the $500.00 or so that those are worth, I'll start begging to be put on the list! Seriously.
Great work!
Oh, Alan, are those vinyl discs, umm, "records" I think they used to be called, on the shelf behind you in those photos?
Be well,

Tell Panache to walk down to the local craft store or better yet the LYS (local yarn shop) by some needles and start knitting. When you also hand him a slip of paper with the measurement for you knee-high hose.

I made up the pattern, but the cable came from the 2nd Treasury of Knitting Patterns by Barbra Walker. If your wife doesn't own it, you should get it for her, get them all for her. She will love you for it even more.

I may have said this before, if so forgive me - the mind is the second thing to go. Has your wife looked at the dictionary of stitches at Knitting fool?
http://www.knittingfool.com/pages/th...&Gallery2=None
This site lists the directions for1724 Stitch Patterns Documented of which 785 are Illustrated. I am knitting a pair (only on the first one, with the Bulky Double Cable
http://www.knittingfool.com/pages/st...&rplus=0&sym=0
down the front and a 3x2 rib in the back. Not as fancy a ribbing as String's, I bow to a master.
The basic hose design is from the Knitting Fiend's Hour glass sockulator.
I am taking the basic sockulator pattern and adding my own cabling and ribbing. Since I am knitting from the foot up I can adjust as I go.
However, having seen Strings' examples you will never see my poor attempt.
Again String those are great.
Edited to add link to cable thumb nail list

They are beyond comfortable. The wool is squishy soft and a total joy to put on my feet. They are going to be warmer than warm! String got the dimensions of my ankles and calves spot-on, I hardly know I have them on.
On top of that, String is a delightful young lady, and we communicated extensively during the process. She warned me that patience was in order, as she had to work the hose around school, holidays, homework and weekend visits with Yeti, but I was in no rush. Far be it from me to impede the blessed process of love!
But oh man were they worth the wait!

Hey, I'm just thinking of the needs of the forum members.

Of course, if you can find a way that your presence INCREASES her speed, then spend all the time with her you want.
