Just reporting what was suggested.

I agree with both Panache and Jock. You're both right.
A hat that offers shade is quite a necessity at times, but in the colder weather, nothing beats the old balmoral. I do wear a few other hats occassionally, but for everyday wear it's either a balmoral (or an ex-military tam) or a bucket hat style (similar to Jamie's--the boy has breat taste), or my trusty brown fedora (a la Indiana Jones). The brimmed hats are for rain.
With a kilte, I rarely wear anything other than a balmoral unless it's a parade or something and I opt for a glangarry.
BTW, Panache, that hatter's site had no hats on it.

I noticed that.
I believe that the website it is fairly new for the store
On the bright side I found that they give a small discount (5%) for their repeat customers

Jamie,
You're looking good! And you should feel good about assembling an outfit that you like.
Merriam-Webster gives the primary definition of costume as
the prevailing fashion in coiffure, jewelry, and apparel of a period, country, or class
The word costume might hold some negative social connotations for you, but I think that is usually just utilitarian. Unless you are intent on duplicating the costume of another period, country or class (a goal which I do not denigrate in the least), you should wear what is right for you and your locale. After all, that is what the originator of the style you might emulate certainly did.

Panache,
I will confess to being a hat afficionado.
I have two rules with hats.
(1) Does it look right on me and with my ensemble? The hat you are wearing goes very well with the jacket you have on, which I believe compliments the rest of your ensemble.
(2) Am I comfortable in this hat? By all appearances, you seem to be eminently comfortable wearing this hat. You pull it off rather well, actually.
It looks to me that this hat passes my two rules. I say wear it.

Looks good Jamie. Unfortunately, that style doesn't look good on me.

I couldn't pull off that look, but you have brilliantly.

Jamie,
Only you could pull off an outstanding appearance in such a tasteful manner.

You know something, I actually think the hat works really well. It looks good and it matches the jacket really well.
I say keep wearing it and get a panama hat when you can.
P.S.
Hope you enjoyed the whisky in the glass!
