YES! I almost forgot about Moffat's BBC series, Sherlock. What a fantastic, modern approach to Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. Well acted, and a sound plot.

Indeed. I do miss Jeremy Brett & selfishly wish his health had endured a wee bit longer.
I also enjoy Basil Rathbone. Another that I enjoy is the film "Murder By Decree" starring Christopher Plummer as Holmes & James Mason as Watson. I love the chemistry between the two.

I have to admit I'm very much a purist / traditionalist when it comes to my Holmes, I really do not like to see him messed with much (some of the Rathbone stories aside). However I find this new take on "Sherlock" to be simply brilliant!

Just about any rendition of Holmes is better than the "modernised" rubbish versions the BBC is currently putting out.l
(and I say that as an admirer of Benedict Cumberbatch who is playing him)

I saw some of that show and it looked awesome! Wish I had an Xbox and Netflicks so I could see it more.

The Mrs. and I really enjoyed the BBC series, and I hope to see the new movie. Think I should wear my 'arris tweed cape to the show?

Re: Kilts in new Sherlock Holmes
Downey, Jr. is horribly miscast as Holmes. He fits none of the physical descriptions of Holmes in the stories - and doesn't much behave like him either (regardless of Holmes' described skills as a boxer and swordsman, and occasional descents into drug abuse). I struggled through a viewing of the first film, but really couldn't get beyond Downey's bizarre interpretation.
Jeremy Brett was definitely the best on-screen Holmes. Though, there was a Peter Cushing portrayal in a version of "Hound of the Baskervilles" that I quite enjoyed.

I'm a big fan of the books with two versions on my shelf, and just enjoy the movies as fun.
