A note to think about when designing your Tartan.

About the average Tartan Sett is somewhere around 6-8 inches.

This means that in 13 oz fabric, which has approx. 48 yarns per inch, your design needs to contain 312 yarns in one full repeat to yield a repeat of 6.5 inches.

16 oz. fabric has approx. 36 yarns per inch so a full repeat of 234 yarns will yield
    a repeat of 6.5 inches.

Please remember that the yarns per inch figures I give here are examples only and will vary between mills. I took my figures from samples of Locharran Tartan that I have here in the shop.

    green...

The green could represent Federal Law Enforcement & Protection Rangers of the US National Park Service, the US National Forest Service, BLM, Fish & Wildlife, etc.

Some of the Police units also have specific tartans associated with their bands these would also qualify. Also you can use the tartan of your state, that is if the state has a recognized tartan. BTW-Almost all of the Armed Forces have recognized and registered tartans now. The Army just got theirs last year and the Marines are still trying to get the Leatherneck officially recognized.

Sorry OT, but could you point me to where the ARmy Tartan is actually recognised officially.
