    Re: Eclipse: Black&Tan variant

Last weekend, at 6am, our local (The Olde Ship) was full as it always is on any Match Day, and I tried Guinness over Twisted Thistle. Very nice!

Black Thistle I think I'll call it.

Now is there any beer with "sister" in the name, which could be combined with Twisted Thistle to create a Twisted Sister?? Hmmm...

I'll have to try Guinness over Boddington's.

Thanks for the input and links! Richard

It is too bad Pierre Celis closed the Celis brewery in Austin a few years ago, his kids just didnt have the heart for brewing as he did. The Ceilis Wit bier would have been great for everyone using the (Coors produced) Blue Moon. Pierre revived the wit or white bier style in Hoegarden and then moved to Texas to create it there using the Texas red wheat. He also made a wonderful Pale Bock beer that was fantastic.

My favorite Black and Tan is the one Ive always made myself. A room temp Guinness and a nice cool, not too cold, Anchor Steam. The steam beer adds a great flavor to the Guinness. I just had to find eateries that carried the Guinness and Anchor Steam in bottles.

    Cheers \_/

Thumbs up Re: Eclipse: Black&Tan variant

I enjoy a black and blue. Here in Massachusetts it would be Guinness over blueberry beer (I prefer Sea Dog or Wachusett with the beer being more 3/4 Guinness). The small amount of blueberry gives the rest of the Guinness a subtle creamy blueberry pie finish. Mmmmmmm

    Ooooh that sounds good!

There are a few places around here that have Anchor Steam on tap. I'll try your Black Anchor (as we might well call it) next time I'm in one of those pubs.

(It's even more difficult to find the excellent Liberty Ale on tap.)

Last weekend, at the Seaside Highland Games, I was making and drinking and giving out Eclipses all weekend. No one had heard of or tried the Eclipse but everyone enjoyed it.
