My Scots ancestry comes primarily from one fellow on my Mother's side. His name was Proffit and came from Angus, Scotland. He had no clan that I know of, but he fought for King James in the first Jacobite rebellion of '15. He was captured and sent to America just to get rid of him.

My other linkage is a Gregory line, again on my mother's side. Because of this, I affiliate with the MacGregor Clan (never really asking if they would have me).

Not much Scottish I guess, but having a Jacobite rebel in my family history is good enough for me
It don't mean a thing, if you aint got that swing!!

Well I'm Scottish born. Father was from a Scottish family, but my mother's ancestry goes back to Ireland and Holland.

It's interesting to see these old thread resurrected.

My father's family name ancestor came over from Normandy in the 1650s. Since then, I've gathered a whole host of English ascestry, with a smattering of Scots/Irish and a little German (Pensylvannia Dutch or Deutsch). A grandfather from the 1750s was Irish (Means) and his wife was Scots/Irish (McDonell, which changed back to McDonald, then back to MacDonald from Glencoe). My mother is 2nd generation Slovak. In other words, I could be 100% Celtic. Or I could be a mutt!
