Howdy and best of luck in the search for all types of 'peace' -
I do carving. Specifically, a form of celtic design with good old hammer and chisel which results in the design being 'in relief' - if that makes any sense. Soft wood, a good sharp chisel, and the flowing and intertwining lines of the ancient picts and celts. The planning of it, the design, transferring design to wood, cutting in the outline, then chiseling - each has its own reward and requires a calm kind of focus. Not for everyone but it's pretty cool stuff, and when you're done you have something unique and artistic. Right now I'm designing a frame for a large mirror which will have woven interlocking lines all around it.
Oh, and then there's the fiddle. Which I torture regularly, but only when alone in the house.

You know what really sounds fun and relaxing?
A big ol box of Lego. Sit for hours just making stuff. Making castles and pirate ships and what not.

I like the way you think, Dread.
As for me, my favorite form of relaxation is to hop on my Harley and head out to the winding roads west of the city. Come on Spring!!
I'm really a high-strung kinda guy. I find it very difficult to really relax, to a point where it has affected my sleep my entire life. If I'm at home I can relax a bit by sitting in front of the fireplace with a good book and a small glass of Bailey's. Caring for our two cats is also very soothing, especially our older diabetic one.

Reading - Asian gardening, Tao de Ching, homebrewing; bonsai (doing or reading), instrumental music, meditation, being by water, being with my furkids... sports used to help, but I'm a middle-aged couch potato and don't know any people my age who participate in activities that hold my interest.

I would go nuts to learn more about Bonsai.
Seems very meditative. Focus on controlled growth and care filled nurturing.

The box o lego works. I have a very large bucket, and have lost entire days goofing around with them. When I have good wind I'll fly kites, the kilt flys itself! And I try to juggle at least an hour a day, it's a great focus. Dread try the legos, you'll be hooked.

I loved Lego as a kid. I still love Lego. I think I'd look funny going in to the toy store to buy them for my self though.
No kids.
I saw the Star Wars Lego sets... Oh man to be a kid again!

head to the toy store & grab a coloring book & a 64 piece box of crayolas and go to town. just remember to stay inside the lines!!

My wife loves colouring books and crayons.
I wonder if she'd share with me?
Anybody remember that stiff green modeling clay as a kid? Always smelled like minty toothpaste? That was great stuff to take your mind off of all the pressures of being a kid. Make some great big green Godzilla stomping around on little green people.
