As for me, well, I tend to find good things to admire in both traditional and contemporary looks. And, I do have an opinion about what works and what doesn't. I can be specific about it, too, as others in this thread have offered in their critiques. I accept them as their considered opinions. I can appreciate your point of view, Jock, but if David had donned a tweed jacket and a tank, I would have posted the photo in the appropriate place.
Kind regards,
Rex.
Rex it matters not one jot to me whether David is wearing tweed, tartan, rubber, tin foil, leather or feathers. If I like the combination I will have no hesitation in saying so, if I don't, then I respectfully point that out too. I think I have more than once passed unfavourable comment on some traditional kilt attire and some hats too!Somehow those comments did not cause the reaction as my comments have here. Its nearly 0200 hrs so I am off to bed. I have really enjoyed our discussion tonight, thank you.

While I too don't necessarily agree with the choice of shirt with this ensemble, I do like the overall effort.
I have a pair of Carolina lineman boots that I use to wear for work, I have yet to ever wear them with a kilt. However if I was going to a club or metal/hardrock concert kilted, I think I'd choose to wear them (seriously)!

I like the concepts of the contemporary and non-traditional kilts. That's not to say that I like every style of contemporary or non-traditional kilt; after all, I made some changes to my canvas kilt. I know The Wizard of BC has talked about putting together a pictorial thread of how to accessorize the non-traditional kilt, and I look forward to that.
It's interesting to see these new styles of wearing non-trads develop.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

I like the boots and the look.
My petty hesitation is for the time and effort involved in the on and off of boots that high. I'd rather low boots and tall hose.

I really like contemporary kilts and I think this kilt/boot combo are awesome. Panache is correct, the shirt is a bit conservative compared to the rest of the outfit.....but maybe that was the point? A more edgy shirt might have pushed the outfit a bit farther out into left field, and made the outfit only appropriate for certain situations. As it is now, the outfit is conservative enough to wear around any public place, and the boots give the outfit just enough "attitude." I dig it.

I think Rex dug it too... That's probably what matters anyway.

Before joining this site I had rather narrow ideas of what kilts were and who should wear them. Since joining this site I have actually opened my eyes completely. I do not own a comtemporary kilt as of today but hoping that changes in two weeks at the Ligonier Highland games. Rex's posting of his friend kilted just convinces me that I can do it! He looks grand and my wife agrees that the look is awesome. Not too sure about the shirt but it still is a great looking outfit. Thanks for the information about the belt.

i think he looks good in that set up,
i see myself as a traditionalist at heart but i know when to "haud ma wheesht" with my opinions when i think they will offend
Rex at least you can appreciate your partners dress sense even if others may not and thats the main thing at the end of the day

Well, Rex, your partner looks smashing. This is a terrific look. I actually think the squareness of the shirt is a *good* touch here. Love it!
