Well... I made it to 2008 without shaving. It kind of reminds me of my grandpa when I was a tiny little kid and he had whiskers. I should go for the grizzled hermit in the desert look. I'll need a long walking stick though...

I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

I experimented with different facial hair styles in my teens and early twenties. I found it actually to be more work than being clean-shaven, which is how I always am today. Most of the men in my family are clean-shaven as well, though my dad sported a large 'stache in the 70s. ( I suspect most peoples' 70s dads did! )
My father is one of the rare (formerly) black-haired swarthy Celts who can grow a beard just by thinking about it! The poor man has to shave twice a day (if he's going out that night), while I shave every other day.

Exactly, I'm growing a kenobi. Although, I usually pulled Darth Vader's head off and put kenobi's head on vader's body. I think it was the mental illness.

I had a mustache in highschool and college. It didn't really work on me. Right now I'm doing the desert hermit scruff beard experiment as I have posted before, but I don't think it works either. Oh well, I'll just look weird. I haven't cut my hair sense this summer either, so that's gotten fairly long...

Indeed, they are not for everyone, nor can everyone grow one. And I hope you don't feel the need to be on the defensive about it. Anybody who treats you any less for your ability (or lack thereof) to grow facial hair, well, shame on them!!
As mentioned, I think they look great with a kilt, just as long hair does (I had to cut mine for the job)
Having said that however, it really doesn't matter to me if an individual has facial hair or not, long hair, short hair, or no hair(!!!) -- as long as you wear the kilt!
One of my kinsmen, & a very talented piper to boot, hangs out at the Mackay booth each year, clean shaven (both face & head)

I grew up in a coastal town (that just happened to have a bagpipe band) and spent much of my youth on the water. Many of the old guys had beards, tattoos, and gold rings in their ears.
Always wanted a gold ring, but I want to get it the old-fashioned way; sailing around Cape Horn.

i've always thought that my "chops" went well with my kilts. i guess it kinda adds that rugged look.

Well, that was an interesting experiment, but the grizzled desert hermit beard is coming off today. Thankfully there are no pictures.

One of the great comebacks I heard a bald guy say "You only have so much testosterone. If you want to use your to grow hair, go right ahead."
