I grew up in a coastal town (that just happened to have a bagpipe band) and spent much of my youth on the water. Many of the old guys had beards, tattoos, and gold rings in their ears.
Always wanted a gold ring, but I want to get it the old-fashioned way; sailing around Cape Horn.

Well, that was an interesting experiment, but the grizzled desert hermit beard is coming off today. Thankfully there are no pictures.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

One of the great comebacks I heard a bald guy say "You only have so much testosterone. If you want to use your to grow hair, go right ahead."

I spent the whole weekend in a group that was mostly 17-18 year old guys with serious cases of beard envy, they have a numerical grading system for all the beards they see ranging from 0 (clean shaven or unable to grow one) to 60 (dunno why 60 is the top) the highest score they have found they found this weekend, red beard, down to the chest trimmed on the sides but long enough to braid. They decided it was a 54.
Yes they are strange, but they are my boys.

I grew long sideburns when I first started college, but they didn't last long. Neither did the mustaches I tried to grow off and on. When I got out of college, I went into the Army, so no facial hair then.
When I left active duty I grew a short beard, as most guys probably do when leaving the service. I wasn't so much that I wanted a beard, I just didn't want to shave.
Then I went into the reserves for a couple of years, so the whiskers again had to go. When I went inactive again, the whiskers came and went about every year as the mood hit me.
In the fall of 1994, I decided to grow a beard and it's been there since. I usually don't let it get too long, but it's always been there.
I don't know what it is, but somehow the beard and kilt seem to go together.

I got rid of the grizzled hermit beard yesterday with the beard trimmer, but I still look like I need to shave. It's just not as bad.

Ah, too bad.
I haven't shaved in...well...since December 23d...beard's coming in good...should cut it down, though...as none of the women I know like it.
But beards do go well with the kilt - no matter the length.
