    Smokey Mountain Kilt

I took the kids to Cherokee NC this weekend to see the final showing of "Unto These Hills", an outdoor drama about the removal of the Cherokee Indians.

We took advantage of this time to visit the Scottish Tartans Museum in Franklin on Saturday. Franklin is a nice little town and the museum was easy to find. I had worn my Gordon Modern from USA kilt so imagine my surprise to enter the museum and find the gent behind the counter in denim shorts.

If it's scottish and you want it, the museum gift shop probably has it. Matt, great job on your inventory. The museum itself has some very nice display's from tartans to weapons. I'd like to have spent longer there really digest the information but I was hearding three kids under 7 and there attention span was shorter than mine that day.

We stopped at Tallulah Gorge and I was glad to be kilted in the southern heat.

Once we arrived in Cherokee there were many wondering eyes. The Cherokee were unaffected by the kilt until you greet them in their language with "siyo" or thank them with "wado" and then they would get a curious expression on their face.

After all the stares thru the whole day I finally get a comment from the young lady working the souvenier shop complementing the kilt and that she thinks kilts are awesome. Pay for the necklace, Tom Tom, and rubber tomahawk and we exit stage left.

We arrived at the ampitheatre slightly early so I decide to walk my 2 year old while we wait and met a woman as I exited the restroom asking if I'm from Scotland. I said no that I wear the kilt for comfort. She proceeded to tell me about her friend who was scottish military and many other details about why she was there so it was clear I was just supposed to listen. So I did. She was very nice and thankfully the show started and I was able to make a break, I mean return to my seat

It was a good trip and I can absolutely say in the high humidty of the south a kilt is the only way to go.

I'm glad that when I was last in the South it was winter time! It's humid enough here in Boston in the summer, and I remember the humidity when I lived in Atlanta.

I regret not stopping in at the Tartan Museum the last time I was in the area - the outdoor centre on the Nantahala River is very close to Franklin - so I'm glad you took the opportunity to check it out.

    Andrew.

Yeah, that would be Ronan. I give him a hard time about that. He has three kilts, for goodness' sake, but you can't get him out of his denim shorts except on special occasions. I call him the Scottish "Mario Batalli."

Glad you enjoyed your visit, BTW.
