Normality skewed
I realise now that after nearly a year as part of the community, my frame of reference for 'normal' has been skewed. I've just finished being in the local Am. Dram. play and naturally attended a couple of rehearsals in my kilt. Saturday was the after show party and quite a few usually manage to dress up (a bit) so I thought I'd do the same, kilted. Bearing in mind that there were only about 25 people there and 7 had already seen me kilted, I got responses from "Where are you going on to next?" (@11:30 at night???), "What are you dressed up like that for?" to speechless incredulity. I guess the local population just aren't ready to have their Yorkshire boundaries challenged!
I was also a bit disappointed. I wasn't looking for lots of 'Wow' comments (though that would have been nicer.) I would even have settled happily for no comments at all, but because I have known this bunch for 27 years and they had not seen it before, they were rather outspoken. I had hoped they would be more understanding than Joe Public. Just goes to show....
Good Job I've got St Andrew's Day at school to look forward to!!!
Phil
