Scottish University Sweat Shirts

Seems like garment to wear while casual kilting would be a sweatshirt, or even t-shirt or polo shirt with the logo of a Scottish University. Apparently some do have a university bookstore that sells imprinted apparel like most US universities do.

At least, following up on another forum thread, found that St. Andrews does. Things are a tad pricy, but hey, so are kilts

Anyway, I found a list of Universities in Scotland with links to their websites to at least make sweatshirt hunting easier.

Well, shows you what I know...I'm down to the J's with nary a sign of any college bookstores selling imprinted sweatshirts as is so common in the US.

Do know that St. Andrews does.

Maybe they're considered tacky in Scotland...or sold by nearby merchants...certainly no sign of them so far. Gonna keep looking.

Any info from the old country appreciated...

Apparently they call it "branded" clothing. Having more luck on google putting in the university name then the word branded.

I avoid "Scottish" themed shirts/hats/etc. for casual wear. It belabors the obvious. I think the kilt says it loud and clear. Matt Newsome has a great article covering this topic on his website.

On a related note, it is interesting that "kilting" has become a verb. It even sounds normal, until you apply the concept to other other articles of clothing. Hatting? Sweatering?

Was thinking they'd go well with my solid colored kilts....but this project is turning into a real bust.

Seems imprinted, or branded, sportswear just isn't a big thing in Scotland...was trying Nova Scotia schools too. Just not much.

Another idea down the ol' tube...

Out here in the most redneck rural canyonlands, 135 miles to the nearest city of any size, don't think it would belabor anything...folks seem to need help "getting it."

Ron -- just a personal observation here: I do not wear itmes, regalia, etc. with the emblems/seals/arms etc. of universities I did not attend and/or receive a degree from. That's just me, but I feel that I would be saying that I was an alumni of that particular school when I wasn't. I know a lot of fans do this to support a particular team, and I have no problem with that. This is just my own personal discipline.

Thought about that, but hey, you'll see on most college websites "alumni and supporters."

Like, I sent my daughter to University of Arizona, never attended, but sent a lot of money there...for me, that entitles me.

When I was in university myself as a young man I was a university sweatshirt junkie. It was quite common to exchange university logo sweatshirts with friends and cousins at other schools.

Wearing that school's logo was just that, wearing a school's logo, not a claim to fame.

I often wear a University of Oregon sweatshirt because I grew up in Oregon and like the color combination. But my only claim is that my sister went there. I went to arch rival Oregon State, but still enjoy wearing the UofO colors.

Often bought sweatshirts for universities I'd visited...sort of like Hard Rock Cafe shirts from various cities.

Bought two Northern Arizona University sweats last month. Never went there, but they're the closest university to our remote city, and have an extension campus here, so I support them.

Never been much on rules...and do enjoy blending cultures and fashions. If I was a lady I'd be wearing one of them red hats in a heartbeat :-D

I often wear Yale logo stuff with my kilts when I'm in a casual mood. It seems to fit.

Now I just need to get with Matt Newsome and design a tartan for Old Blue. I'd love to design a tartan and donate it along with a registration to the alumni association/university. Since we don't have one yet I think it would be a really cool gift for the school.
