Second Kilt

This was my second attempt at a kilt. It's a heavy black duck cloth, which is better than the last one. Regular depth to the pleats, but I ran out of material, so the last pleat and reverse pleat and underapron are shortened. It worked fine for a little while, but then they started sticking out and I could never get them to behave. I did put straps and buckles on this one after the picture was taken. A little while after I made this I got my first UK.

You are braver than I in attempting to make your own Kilts, I commend you, as they both look good in that endeavour.

Not by way of criticism, just an observation - I think you are not narrowing the waist of your kilts enough - can you see that there is a dip or bulge at the back just below the waist in the pics?

I think perhaps the belt is narrowing your waist, or you are not allowing enough ease at the seat and you need to make more difference between the waist line and the hip level. It is probably only an inch or so, then the kilt will be closer to your actual body shape in the middle of your back and lie flat.

I think you did a great job. It looks quite nice and probably only people like us who spend sooo much time looking at kilts would notice stuff like Pleater pointed out.

Somehow even though its close to the same material as a UK yours looks more formal.

I agree with Glen, an amazing job. I'd have trouble sewing a button on!
