    Ireland's National USAK

Here is today's work ensemble. Shirt and hose are both black even though they seem to have a faint green tinge in this pic. So nobody thinks I am photoshopping, I turned the other way today!

And if you thought the hose in the prior pics were thin... (don't say antything, these are really regular men's knee length dress socks pushed down, sshhhh!)

    KCW,

This outfit doesn't quite work for me (though it is fine to wear out) . Here's my two cents.

With the dressier shoes I think you need the traditional hose to the knee.

The black shirt & socks don't match any of the kilt colors. I think a yellow or white polo shirt would tie in the shirt to the kilt. Yellow or green flashes would tie in the hose to the rest of the ensemble.

I like the brown accessories (especially the sporran and it's braided belt) though you need a thicker brown belt as has been noted before.

Again, you look fine. But since you wanted our opinion, that was mine.

...and Mr. Blackwell gets paid to do this?

    Cheers

I too think the traditional hose would look better.

The belt should be wider, and while I like the metalwork on it, it seems a little "busy" against the tartan pattern.

Don't you just love how we nitpick everyone here:rolleyes:, As if anyone else out there notices anything but the kilt.

Actually, the main colors of that tartan are Black and Green, I wear a black shirt and charcoal or black hose w/ green flashes with it often.

Well Zardoz beat me to it, the kilt definitely has black, and Ham the green tones are not real, just each individual monitor. The shirt and hose are completely black. On my home PC they came out looking green, but at work they are definityely black, and in person they are black.

Ham, you will absolutely love this tartan. It tends to be one of my favorites. The material is indestructible, the tartan is great, and the accessory options are varied.

Cav, the USAK casuals are worn at the jeans waist instead of the natural waist, so there is no rise to the kilt. The belt loops (which I use on all my kilts) are not big enough for a trad belt. That being said, in reviewing the pic, I wish I had worn my other brown belt. It is slightly narrower, but a darker brown and a more traditional look, no metal incorporated.

And Dave, I do love the nitpicking. I may not always make a change based on it, but it gives me other perspectives. I really enjoy reading people's comments and seeing how they react to a given ensemble.

I withdraw my comments about the the black polo. It looked navy on my monitor. I stand by my hose suggestions. I just found out that my Grandmother's mother was Irish. I should look into the Irish National plaid, I think SWK carries one.

Looking good, Rob! I am waiting for my Ireland's National semi-traditional kilt from Rocky (but he's been held up by delays in delivery from the mill) - and you've just made my jonesing worse! Actually, I see no 'black' at all on my monitor - the green polo and hose tone with the green of the tartan to perfection, however!

I do have to agree with Panache regarding the footwear: Rolled/folded/scrunched down hose just do not work with shoes - only boots!

In the kilt community the name is actually "Mr. Bicknell"

He keeps us on the path to looking our best.

    Hamish,

"Mr. Blackwell" (I don't believe it is his real name) was a onetime child actor and dress designer in the 50's and 60's. He is a fashion critic and for decades has announced a top ten best and worst dressed list for ladies.

    Cheers
