Geography Struggles
So I'm wearing my new 16 oz Strome in the Scott tartan. Walking home from my mother's care home where she beamed when I showed it to her. Scott is her maternal clan.
Now this kilt swings and I'm in full stride. Down the street the local elementary school has just let out and I hear a boy hollar at me, "Hey England guy." I turn around and a boy of about ten is asking me, "Are you from England?"
I assumed he didn't really wanna know where I was from, he wanted to know about the kilt. So I said, "Scotland."
He got it right away and said, "Oh yeah!, cool!"
At least he did better than the drunk guy in Albuquerque who hollared, "Hey Switzerland!"

"I'll have a kilt please, a nice hand sewn tartan, 16 ounce Strome. Oh, and a sporran on the side, with a strap please."

I was in Target about a month ago, I think I was wearing my thrashed Black Stewart (SWK standard). They were redoing the place so I had to look for everything I was after. I had my little blond PCS with me and this guy was talking to his wife rather loudly as he passed us. He said to her "He must be Irish", she said "Shhh...I think they speak English in Ireland". I just chuckled to myself as I kept on walking. O'Neille

I'll occasionally get the "English?" or "Irish?" question (oftentimes more than the "Scottish?" one(, but the one that baffles my mind the most is the "Are you Welsh?" question.
No disrespect intended to our Cymric brethren here, but I'm amazed that people in this country even know that Wales exists most of the time. Considering the fact that statistically most Americans can't even locate Europe on a map of the world, it makes me wonder where these people got the idea to ask me if I was Welsh because I'm wearing a kilt.
Add that to my very Germanic 6'5", blonde haired, blue eyed, fair skinned frame, and I become baffled by the question.
If there was anyone who looked decidedly non-Welsh, it's me.

I think most folks associate kilts with pipers and they see pipers on St. Patricks Day, so you can do the math.

I think there need to be more intense geography lessons in some US schools
England is but one constituent country of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. OK it's the most populated one but it has the least-kilted tradition of all
