Normally as headwear I wear a wide-brimmed heavy felt fedora. I love that hat, it's rugged, versatile, and looks darn spiffy. But I love hats, so I was thinking of something else I could wear (variety is the spice of life after all.)

Now, with all due respect to Dreadbelly, I'm not that fond of tams. They're fine on other people, but I don't particularly want to wear one. The only beret-esque hat I've worn is the old BSA beret (it was my dad's, I'm only 23.)

I've been thinking of making myself a Henrician bonnet, also known as a flat cap, a hat worn in Tudor England. It looks like a beret, but it's got a brim, which I think is why I like it better (I'm a big fan of brims). That, and the fact that it's an historical piece of headgear. They could be large and kind of silly, but the more regualr size is perfect.

I suppose it's a bit of a mix, wearing a Tudor English hat with a kilt, but I'd wear it while betrousered as well. It's not so much a kilt hat, it's a hat to wear all the time, part of that time being kilted. Certainly not giving up my fedora, but I thought it would be a neat project. Now I just have to decide what kind of material to make it out of.
