    Oh the irony!

On the street today, I passed a fellow dressed like a clown from the band, Slipknot. So this was one crazy-looking guy. (Bondage pants with handcuffs and chains, Slipknot shirt, and a clown mask with bright blue hair and sharp teeth.) I was wearing my new MacPherson kilt. As he passes by, he starts making fun of me. I would've said something to him, but I was more thrown off by the fact that a guy dressed as a clown was the one to crack rather malicious joeks about it... If I had felt like getting into a street-fight with a clown I would've said something.

It says a lot about someone's maturity, or lack thereof, when they dress like a clown and then make fun of you for looking different.

Violent? Was it the pointed teeth or the handcuffs? Sounds like a case of "clothes make the man"...

I'm just dying because I'm thinking of all the snappy comebacks that you could deliver to a smart-*** clown....

Whatsamatter, Bozo? Another round of lay-offs at Ringling Brothers?

No it was something besides the teeth and handcuffs. I have several goth friends, so that stuff doesn't bother me. It was something else about him. Couldn't quite put my finger on it... And NICE! If I would've thought of that come-back I would've said it. Would be worth the fist fight with a clown...

I'd be surprised if the clown would have wanted a fight. People like him who dress in outlandish clothes and face painted expect to attract stares and even sometimes to be laughed at. He was obviously an attention seeker. Maybe he was provoking you in the hope you would start a conversation. He may have felt challenged that someone else appeared to him to want to be centre of attention by wearing a kilt. But I think it less likely he would have dared start a fight as his conspicuous clothes, compared to the average guy in blue jeans, would have ensured he couldn't have punched someone then simply disappeared into the crowd.

You're a more demure man than I. For me, this would have been a definite confrontation. Some jackass dressed like a mental ward escapee with a circus fetish making fun of a kilt...you're right: oh, the irony.

As the older crowd here (myself included) might attest, a satisfactory riposte to a clown is "Now that's a Bozo no-no."

But it would be lost on a youth, sadly.
