    MacGregor Tartan ?!?!?

I'm thinking about my next kilt-sometime in the future. MacGregor I do believe.
What do you folks think about these clothe samples/pictures, from Matt's STM?
I like more muted colours but any suggestions would be great.

    David,

I recently completed a box pleated kilt in the 16 oz weathered MacGregor and it turned out really lovely.

Let me know if you want me to send you samples of the cloth.

I like that tartan. I'm partial to weathered colors. But, that ancient shade is very nice too.

Aren't the weathered tartans considered the "rare and unusual" ones and cost more? I know that I'm lusting after the Weathered Cawdor and it seems a tot more expensive.

    MacGregor hunting (ancient)

I'm enamored of the MacGregor Hunting (ancient) .

I was thinking earlier today this would go well as one of Matt's box-pleat creations. I was also admiring the Carolina states tartan in Matt's pictures, and eventually I want that, too!

My first tartan kilt will probably be a Wallace USAKilt... then i need to see whether my waistline will settle down before I start looking at big investments. I have one great-grandparent a Gregg, one a Wallace. There are lots of nice tartans there!

They're a good representation. The Macgregor Modern is a lot less bold IRL than you might think. The large amount of green mutes it quite a bit. A relative of mine has a wool scarf made out of pretty much that exact tartan. I got a SportKilt in MacGregor and even though it's not quite the same, it's not over-bright or garish by any stretch.

I could go for either the ancient or the weathered. first choice is the latter.

I have a Gordon Weathered on order right now from Matt, and it is part of the rare and unusual, but Matt only charges about $25 more than for any other, so what the hey?

David, I go on Saturday for my first fitting of my first and probably only tank. It is MacGregor Modern being made by Rob at West Coast Kilts. Look for pics and a full review in the near future.

    MacGregor Hunting...WEATHERED!!!

HEWWWWW! HOT DAMN! I didn't know they made a WEATHERED hunting MacGregor (or according to the chief: MacGregor of Cardney) !!! Decisions, decisions...

I gotta tell ya that the weathered colours really do it for me. And I love the Hunting MacGregor. I've got a sweet hunting MacGregor already, and am the proud new owner of the 16oz weathered MacGregor the Mr Newsome mentioned. The 16oz weight is SOOOO worth it, too! If I can help it all my kilts will now be 16oz.

    The 16oz Weathered MacGregor:

My Hunting MacGregor (MacGregor of Cardney) Tank:

Whichever you choose, you're sure to be pleased with Mr Newsome's handywork. Good luck with choosing your tartan.

    ARD CHOILLE!!! MACGREGOR DESPITE THEM!
