Am I re-hashing old stuff here?

I am not quite sure where this question belongs, so I will throw it in here and let the Powers That Be re-direct it if they see fit.

As a relatively new and naive member of XMarks, I am certain that this is an old and very boring question, one that has been asked and answered hundreds of times in dozens of ways, but....

As we all are knownby our member names and very few of us list our Surnames (aka Clans), it is difficult to know just who is who. I would like to find other Kennedy/Ross/Clark XMarkers just to know who and where they are. I have found, purely by accident, a few here but couldn't name them if I were threatened with a free dram of single malt. Along this line of thought, I have also been thinking of changing my XMark name to something more clannish.

Would it be possible, or has it been done, to create a sub-category of Clans so that we might find our own. Although I have the link to the American Kennedy site as a favorite, I find XMarks to be more of a community.

I have read some of the War Cry and Family Motto and Clan Badge/ Crest threads but they don't seem to fill this niche.

Some place it in the signature block. I suppose we could add it to the Interests or Biography field.

I don't know the server software, so I don't know whether adding another field would be trivial or a Big Deal. IF the latter---if it's not a built-in capability of the local configuration---then every time there is a software update, one has to modify it again, test that it still works, & it's quite a pain.

Many X-markers use the signature block and their avatar to indicate their clan connections and interests.

Some of us, myself included, have inherited our Scottish heritage through the maternal line of the family and don't have a clan or sept surname.

Why not start a thread with a title of "Searching for - Kennedy/Ross/Clark Clan Members" in this part of the forum. This could get you some information while the moderators decide if they want to gather this information in the forum database.
