So, I started on the chanter about 5 weeks ago. Something I've wanted to play for 18 years, but, until recently, never had the opportunity (the bagpipes). I take lessons once a week, and go to the band practice once a week. Well, tonight, one of the members, a doctor, and whom I consider an inspiration for me, let me try his pipes, just to "get a feel for it". So, I air up the bag, and, after several tries, get sound. Now, not just ANY sound, but, I actually play the scale (well, sorta, kept airing up & down), and the first few bars of Scots wae hae. The guy who lent me his pipes was impressed. So much so, he told my instructor, who said that, this week, I can take home his practice pipes, to give it a go. I am psyched!
This is all a dream come true for me...I am posting it here because, well, this is the forum I'm most active on. But, I'm so excited, I had to share. I know I still have a long road ahead of me, better than 6-8 months before I'm on he pipes proper, and, I'm still learning the throws & doublings, etc, but to get words of encouragement like tonight, from people I look up to, well, lets say its an excellent way to start my month.
