World War 1 Kilt sighting
I finally got to tour the Newly remodeled World War One Museum in Kansas City today and I discovered a kilt on display from South Africa, if my old memory serves me right. The tartan was listed as Murray of Athol. Then later there was a cotton kilt apron/cover on display. I have never seen one in person before.
If you are a history buff and are passing through Kansas City this is an amazing memorial/museum, but be sure to give yourself a few hours to see it all.

I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

A good friend of mine from my Civil War reenacting days is volunteering at the Liberty Memorial -- he does a Imperial German soldat impression. The Liberty Memorial is the only National memorial/museum to the First World War in the US:

If the tartan was Murray of Atholl, then the kilt most likely belonged to the Transvaal Scottish Regiment:

Did they have the battle-damaged Renault tank on display yet?

Wonder if that's the one I used to sit on during lunch when I was at 20th Century Fox? Either that, or it's from a little known Scottish Regiment raised by French auto workers durning the Great War. Either way... cool.

Not yet they had a donation box out to help make it a part of the permanent collection.

Here's a .pdf file containing the press release about the tank:

And an article from the KC Star:

It was from a private collection in Montana.

All German nouns are capitalized, like Black Watch

Last time I went up the tower, the museum only had the bridge and flowers to the entrance up. Can't wait for some out of town visitors to go see it.
