Great looking cloth, but before I ordered I'd have some questions for the seller. Here is what they advertise:
This tartan is Reiver or 13 ounce weight
I order fabric from Lochcarron all the time, and Reiver is the name of their 10 oz cloth line. Their 13 oz line is called Braeriech. So which is it?
They also say:
The cloth is 60inches wide
Lochcarron's 13 oz cloth is 54" wide. Lochcarron's 10 oz cloth is 59" wide. They say this cloth is 60" wide. I'd guess, therefore, that this is really 10 oz cloth, and they are rounding up on the measurement.
$75 per yard is a fair retail price for Lochcarron's 13 oz cloth. It's a bit more expensive than their typical 10 oz cloth retails for per yard, but then again this is a custom weave so one would not be surprised to find it costing more per yard.
But I'd want to find out for sure if this were really 13 oz or 10 oz before ordering, as the fabric qualities are actually quite different. 13 oz would be great for a man's kilt, and I'd feel comfortable using it for 4 or 5 yard kilts, as well as the typical 8 yarders. It can also be used for uphoslery.
But 10 oz I wouldn't really reccomend for a man's kilt, though it would suffice for a full 8 yard kilt. No way I'd make a four yard kilt from it, though. It makes great lady's skirts, and is also the weight used for scarves, ties, sashes, and that sort of thing. Also makes great tartan banners.

I've sent a message to the seller, being that I am in TN, that might be some nice cloth to have for a kilt, if it is indeed the 13oz. Thanks for the heads up, Matt! Always glad you're around to keep us kilt noobs informed!!
