It's really going to be a matter of how it feels when you're walking, and the sporran is bouncing around your bits. Some like it a bit higher to minimize that. For straight looks, I'd say the top pick is mor the thing.

The second photo is a little small to make out how the sporran is suspended from the hangers but the height on the second photo better than the first.

My preference is to wear the sporran as high as possible without it rubbing against the buckle. This is the most comfortable to me. The sporran isn't bouncing on your thighs as you walk.

You can always remove a few links from the sporran suspenders if needed, just to pose another option.

I also like to wear the sporran relatively high... as Turpin said, to avoid my "bits". If the sporran gets too low, I find that walking down the stairs, especially, can be a bad experience!

It all just comes down to personal preference, though.

The rule of thumb that I have heard is 3 or 4 fingers width below the belt, however different sporrans will have different resting spots, and of course everyone is unique so it really all dependes on your comfort. However you wear it, so long as it's comfortable that's the most important thing.

I do like the top look better but what about something in between?

Oh, sorry, in reference to the space between the bottom of the belt and the top of the sporran.

I have heard the same thing, and that puts the sporran at what seems to be the most comfortable spot for me. I wonder how they knew..
