hose patterns
I searched out the hose section but couldn't find an answer to this. I haven't seen all that many kilt hose but it seems the style is to go plain except for the tops, which can get pretty fancy, and the argyle pattern. So my question is would you guys wear a more fancy cabled hose such as these Aran Kilt Hose http://www.scotbagpipes.com/acatalog/Kilt_Hose.html or are they too fancy as in no self respecting Scotsmen would be caught dead in a pair of those.

Sure, I'd wear them to formal functions if I had them.. I should probably buy a pair. Most of my daily hose are the typical kilt hose.

In a heartbeat. When I visited Scotland, except for the pipers, just about anybody I saw wearing a kilt was wearing some sort of Aran cable knit hose, cream or colored. At the Strathmore Games at Glamis Castle I picked up a pair for myself, custom hand made in a marled purple to go with my IoS kilt---only cost me 15 quid from the tent vendor who had a bunch in different colors, but only the purple in my giant foot size. It looked like his wife sitting at the back of the tent knitting away while I walked through, probably making more stock on the fly. Wish I could have gotten more.

Aran hose are just fine although I wouldn't go for the pure white ones, some colour to match your kilt looks a lot better.

I love the fancy designs myself. My dear friend Pamela (who is a super sweetie!) spins and knits so she's dyin' to knit me a few pairs of the more complicated cable patterns.

I would wear the more intricate patterns in a heartbeat, if I could a) afford to have them made for me (I wear a 13EE shoe) and b) in something other than wool as most of the year here it is too warm for wool, even Acrylic can be a bit warm at times.

She's making me winter hose and summer hose. But I expect my feet to be warm a lot of the time. That's ok. And I couldn't afford them no way.
FM, the gent looks great. Thumbs up.

Here's the finished hose my sweetie made for me. They're worsted weight so cool weather wear. Now she's on to a fancier design.
