Geneology - What's yours?
I have aquired a file that shows my geneology back to ~1747. I may be your relative.
My last name is Catanach and decended from the Chattan Clan. The Catanachs inhabited an area between the Don and Dee rivers. Here is a list of the last names that I am related to by marriages:
Hood
Rapp
Lesher
Scott
Bell
Waddle
So, cousins, brothers and sisters, am I related to you?
Here is a picture of William Catanach who immigrated to the US in 1866. He was married to Ann Bell.

Wonder whatever happened to his kilt?
From ~1747 to 2008 only 6 generations. The say you are only 6 people away from anyone in the world. I think the world is getting smaller...

Family Ties
My surname is Malcolm. I only know the family tree back to my great Grandfather Henry Jefferson Malcolm. He was born in the North Carolina hills. When the Malcolms came over, I do not know.
On my Mum's side her Mum was a Robertson. I have her birth certificate. Her mother was a MacRae and her Dad was Levi Parker Robertson. He was born in 1868. His pix is below at age 30. My Mum was an Army bride thanks to Russia blocking Berlin. Dad was a flight mechanic on C-47s.

I'm Gillmore of Morrison. A part of the family moved from Scotland to Ireland then my g-g-g-grandfather moved to Chile, then generations later my mother moved to the US.
I don't no anything further than the 1840s.
This is supposedly one of my ancestors...

Not sure though, his name is Gillmour of Craigmillar, but I'm trying to prove it.
And then I have some MacDonald and Campbell....
I forgot to add the Irish:
Kane
Byrnes
And then I have some Croatian, German nobility (don't have the papers anymore as they were destroyed by a jealous step-mother), Austrian, Hispanic, English, Chilean, and whatever else.

Very normal... Rob Roy's mother was a Campbell. Campbell's were/are very numerous.. and are not the bad guys like everyone likes to make them out to be. If folks were to make a closer examination of history, they would realize that key persons were the bad guys, the [P.T.B. (Powers That Be)].
There were MacDonald's who were Hanover's and there were Campbell's who were Jacobite's. There were Highlanders who were Hanover's and there were Lowlander's who were Jacobite's.

On my Father's side, the family has been traced to Eastern Shore MD in 1688-89. Lots of Celtic lasses were married in the ensuing generations, Ross, Leslie, Doherty, O'Shannonhan, to name the ones that came to mind. On my Mother's side; She was born in Tobermory, Mull in 1900, her Mother was second generation French, but her Paternal Grandmother was a Boyd, as was my Mother's Father's Mother. (Confused? if not why not, I am! She (my Mother) is the reason I took the MacLaine of Lochbuie tartan. Ain't it a hoot? Even if you run into a blank, keep trying. Sometimes it is due to the misreading of a name. Old script can be confusing. Elijah looks a lot like Elisha, for instance.
