Back in 2004 one of the first kilts I ordered was a saffron leather RKilt from Robert Pel. www.rkilts.com I prefer to call the color "buckskin"
gives it more of a western kilt flavor.
Back then I wasn't good at measuring and I was optimistic about sustaining a weight loss program. So in early to mid-2005 I only had a few months to wear this succulent kilt before I "outgrew" it. As I unsuccessfully attempted to sqeeze back into the kilt it became a closet queen.
Then a while back Robert was kind enough to offer to alter the kilt to fit my new girth. Got lucky. He still had leather from the same batch that he made the first kilt from.
Well - the alterations are now complete and the expanded kilt is being worn again with great joy and pleasure. Robert also sent along one of his classic Ranger belts as a reward for a photo contest. A great western addition to a very western looking kilt.
So today I planned to take some pics. The day dawned dark and stormy but I kilted up and headed on out during a break between storms. Took a long my Mr. Antony Inverness Cape which came in handy hiking back out in the rain. No pics of that since didn't wanna get the camera wet.
So, here are some shots taken at the Horseshoe Bend overlook of Glen Canyon of the Colorado River.
This is a pretty rumpled shot, but it also shows how buttery soft this leather is. Had just plopped down on the rock, racing the camera timer.
This side view shows the cargo pockets. There are two small pockets on the outside (had my folding knife in one on the other side) and the main cargo pocket is divided into two sections. Robert rivets these cargo pockets on. .
Don't know if they show well in this front pic but There's also a D ring and a J hook key ring deal and a leather expand band to hold a hammer or hatchet
And here's my favorite pic
It shows the pleats in the wind from the canyon updraft. You can look right into the pleats and see how generous Robert is with the leather. Them pleats are 2 1/2" deep with a 1 1/2" reveal.
As you've probably already repeatedly heard Robert's work is pure quality.
I am sooooo happy to have this kilt in "my size" again. Gonna get a LOT of wear out here in the canyonlands.
