    Custom-Run of Original Culloden Tartan

I'm considering a custom-weave of the Culloden tartan in Wilson's of Bannockburn eighteenth century colors. The image below is a little off in terms of the colors (the dark blue and green are a little darker in the Wilson's colors), but this will give you an idea of the unfaded look of the tartan. If you're interested in getting in on a potential order, please let me know how many yards you're willing to commit to order. If there is sufficient interest then I'll plan to arrange the ordering through Matt Newsome at the Scottish Tartans Museum. If the order is large enough then we can have it woven in double-width cloth. Cost should be around $65 per yard.

    Cordially,

    David

Interesting article, Todd. Now how would one go about having a coat made made in this tartan?

    Mael,

    You and I think alike.

Assuming double-width is about 58-60", you'd need about 3 yards to make the coat you indicated up to a size 44. If the fabric is only about 45" wide, you'd need a bit more, say 3 1/2 yards.

I would recommend the 18th century sleeved waistcoat pattern by J.P. Ryan.

Assuming the run would be in the wider width, I'd be interested in 3 yards.

This may be a dumb question but,

Is everyone looking at buying this tartan to make a period jacket or a kilt?

    Matt
Would this Tartan make a good looking a box pleat?

I'm interested in ordering but the yardage depends on if its double or single wide

To give a better idea of the colors, here is an image of the Lochaber tartan woven in the traditional "Wilsons of Bannockburn" eighteenth century dyes. It will show you what the shades of blue and green will look like.

Matt, these were the dyes used for the last run of Carolina, right?
