Buchanan blue dress.

I've been looking around for a picture of Buchanan Blue Dress tartan in kilt form, but I can't seem to find any. This sprang from a discussion with my girl, who is willing to let me have her hand in a kilt if it looks nice, but not in the garish Buchanan tartan. She wants a blue theme to her bridesmaids, and I'm trying to talk her into the tartan, but can't find any good pictures.

By the way, this is a purely hypothetical discussion I'm having with her, we won't be getting married for some time if at all. Just one of those things that's nice to talk about.

Also, if anyone has any history on the tartan (Mr. Newsome, I'm looking at you) or any trivia about it, I'd love to hear it.

Well, yes. I've come across plenty of swatches, but as I might not have made clear enough in my first post, what I'm REALLY looking for is a picture of it as a kilt.

Information: this tartan is a "dance" tartan that is usually worn by Highland dancers. Matt had this to say about dance tartans in a blog entry:

Sorry, I didn't read carefully...I tend to see these colorways in dancer's kilts, so perhaps that is a source?

I don't believe I know of a picture of an entire kilt made up in the tartan, but here is a picture of the actual cloth, as opposed to a computer generated image.


Yes, this is a dress/dancers' tartan. According to STA notes it was developed by Edinburgh kiltmaker Hugh Macpherson c. 1983. Dalgliesh offers it in a 12 oz fabric.

Of course, the correct answer is (1) my tartan is non-negotiable (2) I will not repeat not be color-coordinated with a bridesmaid. If your lady wants to wear the blue dance tartan, more power to her. There is a similar one I think if having made into a dress for my bride.

How about Texas Bluebonnet, available from Marton Mills in 16 ounce? Strathclyde Blue from House of Edgar in 13 oz. I believe. There's an All-Ireland Blue...
