Asking for advice (a bunch of pictures included)
I hate taking pictures..especially of myself! But I was hoping to get som e input. Please excuse the ridiculous faces and even worse.. the hideous couch!
Next weekend is Tartan Day and then the second weekend following I am attending a weekend bagpiping workshop that has a concert on Friday night and a cocktail party on Saturday. I have gone away numerous times in my life and have NEVER though about what I am going to wear.. until NOW.
A few months I purchased an Irish National 'outfit' on Ebay from the Scottish Kilt Company. As I really had no clue (and still don't) about kilts, I went with luck of the draw. For the price I paid I have to say, it's not so bad. I then also purchased (again from ebay) an SWK Saffron Shadow Tartan. I really like the way both look. Here's my dilemma....
What do I wear where?
Here's some of the combinations I thought were kinda ok...

or.. SUPER casual...

with workbooots or sneakers or just walking shoes...
What does the rabble (if I may address you as such since I am still so new) think of these?
Of course I know I am not wearing a kilt pin, not do I have flashes in all pictures.. I was just testing the waters to see what was decent looking.
Thanks for any input you may have....

I like the saffron and the polo and the Jets shirt and the Ireland tartan. I'm not a fan of Jacobite shirts at all, but I think it goes better with the Ireland tartan.

I would wear the Irish National with the black polo. On the shoes I have no clue it would depend on what you already have. I wear my boots with my kilts a lot. If I know I am walking a lot I just wear walking shoes. It doesn't look great with a kilt but hey I am comfortable and it is passing enough.

Just one fat, old man's opinion........................
I tend to think of gillie brogues as a dress shoe otherwise all your combos look good. My vote would be for the saffron and golf shirt look as I believe it would work in all situations that you mentioned. If you have a pair of nice casual shoes that is all I would change.

As I'm not overly fond of plain coloured kilts, I'd say the Irish National kilt for both instances; with the Jets shirt and casual/comfortable shoes for the workshop and the black polo with Ghillies for the cocktails. Leave the Jacobite for Renn Faires

Cocktail parties are usually fancier fare than a tshirt...

Out of the outfits shown, I'd say this one is best:

Though I'd say for a cocktail party I may go a wee bit more dressed up than this, I would suggest that ghillie brogues are not really needed with an outfit like this they seem to me to be out of place, also you may want to wear darker hose if you have any.

I kind of agree.... I like the Jacobite.. more suited in correct time and place... Tartan Day and the workshop probably isn't.

The ghillie broughes were put on and I wasn't going to take them off... I believe I have some shoes that might fit the bill.

The workshop is up in Saratoga Springs hosted by the Oran Mor Pipe Band.

McM, I understand the sentiment, though I don't believe it's a 'cocktail party' per se.. more like happy hour in the hotel bar. The darker hose is on order. I only posses my piper's hose at this time.
To all so far.. thanks for the input!

If you're going to wear boots, I'm with McMurdo. Black polo, Ireland tartan kilt. With the boots, ditch the bright white hose in favor of some darker wool boot socks, and you'll be set.
Be prepared, as you might very well be the most casual dressed lad there, but that isn't a bad thing. People tend to overdress with the kilt. So, you'll be casual, so you'll have an excuse to act casual!
Enjoy the event, take pics, and post them!
