I was kilted all day today. Did a program for children at local library as part of our Scottish Society educational outreach.....more on that later. The program was in the afternoon. But, yard saling has started in our area and my wife and I enjoy finding "stuff", so I kilted up to go yard saling then to the afternoon program. However, it was very windy as we yard saled and for the sake of propriety I chauffeured my lass down the streets and I didn't venture out of the vehicle much. Oh, I'm not shy and my wife didn't care, but I just felt it wise to not embarrass "others" if the wind did a pick up on the kilt! (ever notice the lettering in the word "embarrass"....goes along with wearing a kilt in the wind!! ). So, we stop at one yard sale, wife walks into the garage where it was being held, and I sit in vehicle reading a book, when she calls me on the phone. "Come in here, there are some old Scottish calendars for sale!" Sure enough, 1953 and 1954 calendars from Scotland with scenery, castles, locals, etc. for the monthly photos. I was born in 1953 so it was special. When I went to pay, two ladies were taking the money....one said, "You look so good in your kilt. Would you like a 2009 calendar of the Orkney Isles?" SURE!! The lady had lived in Scotland several years ago for about 6 months. We talked, had a grand, albeit short conversation. Ahh, 'tis good to wear the kilt!! (The calendars are wonderful!)
