    Question Targe Spike

Hi got a question for anyone who has made a targe spike, I made one from a hex bolt seems to work fine. I used a grinder but it took the shine off and made it uneven.

Would sandpaper work to bring back then shine and make it more even? If so could you recommend a grit.

    Thanks Erik M...

    Hey Erik,

Why not join the rust instead of fighting it? In the damp, chilly climate of the Highlands, few ferrous things would be shiny bright.

How 'bout encouraging a rich reddish-brown oxidative protective coating instead? Doing so prevents the crusting flaky rust, yet makes the spike look more authentic.

This product is simple to use, controllable, & relatively harmless:

I've used it on flintlocks, blades, and other iron/steel items with great success.

    Ciao,
    steve

    draw file with mill file
    sand
    220 grit
    320 grit
    400 grit
    Fire blue it
heat with propane torch until it turns light blue and then quench in oil

    makes a good finish
