    What Tartan?

    Help!
This is a shot of the great kilt I bought a couple of years ago at the Maryland Renfaire from Wolfstone Kilts. It was my first kilt. The comfort and (there's no other word for it) swagger i felt wearing it at the Faire helped get me into kilting. I could have sworn it was Royal Stewart, but now that I know what I'm doing, it doesn't look like Royal Stewart. I am NOT saying Wolfstone mislead me. I had a fair amount of beer that afternoon. It was hot. And I probably misremember. But I can't find it. It may be a fashion tartan, and that's ok, I just want to know before I wear it again.

It's the inverse of that, almost.

The three blacks on MacLeod of Raasay are red in the other, and the black stripe is white. The thread counts are similar, though.

Sorry everyone - that's what I meant. It was late and I was tired. What I meant to say was that the basic under-check is the 'Macleod Sett'. From what I understand the 'Macleod Sett' has been used many times as the basis for many other family and district tartans. Different colours and different over-check makes for a different tartan.

So Geoff, it probably isn't Macleod at all and it definitely isn't Stewart Royal.

    Regards

    Chas

You could contact Wolfstone from their website and ask them.

They apparently use Strathmore's tartan finder. That could help too.

I'm leaning towards a fashion tartan too - just from the layout....but what do I know?
