Made the trip to Franklin, NC
Finally made the trip over to Franklin last week while we were visiting my grandparents in Murphy. Wife enjoyed it as much as me, she is already looking at what tartan she would like me to get for my second kilt. Of course thanks to Matt's museum, I think that my next kilt may be in the brand new University of Georgia tartan!!!!! Go Dawgs!!!!!! And no, I forgot the camera in the car so I don't have pictures, but as soon as I can get my pics from Cade's Cove and Gatlinburg loaded up, I'll post some of my kilted excursion to Tennessee.

Glad you enjoyed your time here in western NC. Stop in and take in the sights in Asheville when you're down this way again. I'll be happy to lead the tour of local breweries and pubs.

UGA tartan
Hmm.... they got some of the details of the thread count wrong in the National Register. Makes it look like an asymmetrical tartan, which it is not. I'll have to write them.
Here's a (small) picture of the cloth we actually had woven.

I went there before I purchased my first kilt. I had finished a section hike of the Appalachain Trail starting a Springer Mt and finished in Franklin. Was picked up by a man named Ron Haven I believe, he is one of the South's greatest story tellers without a doubt. Stayed at one of his hotels and saw the museum and strolled on up to there and did a tour. That is when I decided the remainder of my hiking would be kilted. I will pick back up in Franklin next month for another 130 mile section.
Great town!!!!
