My family, including the wife, do not know much about kilts and kilt accessories. So I usually don't ask them to get me something like that. I always ask for cash and end up with 150 to 200 dollars to go and get what I want. That way I get EXACTLY what I want, even if it is not a kilt item.

I have purchased a sporran similar to this for myself:

Like briceolob, my family knows zip about Scottish attire.
Oh, yeah, the new kilt will be in about Feburary.

My wife is getting me a Flamingo Kilt outfit. Like others, I have to act surprised. Unlike others, my wife has a good grasp of Highland and related attire, so I know I'll be getting good accessories to go with it. Those, I actually am clueless on! So the other parts of the outfit she wants to put together for me will indeed be a surprise.

Christmas came a bit early. My wife bought me a sporran and it arrived today. But also --- kilt number 2 .. in a McLaren tartan. It is also a Christmas present, but this one is done in reverse, or inside out or something. My wife gave me the funds buy another kilt as a Christmas present. The goal was that it should arrive prior the Christmas Party at my Knights of Columbus council on 12 December. It has, but she doesn't know that it has. So the surprise will be when, on 12 December, I step out of the bedroom fully dressed for the dance and voila!
Oh -- there will be pictures!
And BTW -- the next day I have to play Santa for the KofC children's Christmas party. There isn't any chance that we can determine that Santa wears a kilt?

I have had tartan registered and woven in the new Fitzgibbon red. Can't wait to unwrap it and make the kilt.
