    A funny moment today

My husband and I attended an antique show (I've posted about it before -- it occurs twice a year). Last time, I wore a bustle gown, and he wore his kilt. We just weren't in the mood to dress up this time as I was meeting up with only one friend for some shopping (much easier to dig through boxes under tables looking for stuff to buy if you're more comfortable).

As we started browsing one of the booths, an older gentleman (he spoke so softly, but I think his accent was English) approached my husband and said "No uniform this time?"

Christopher stopped, confused for a moment, then realized they had chatted at the last show when Christopher wore his kilt! He was wondering where the kilt was this time! Heheheh. (my husband really stands out and is unforgettable)

No one recognized me (I think the gown was a little over the top for anyone to pay attention to me), but my friend ended up wearing a Regency gown because she had a few of the sellers asking her why she hadn't dressed up the day before (they were almost disappointed). She's been going to the show longer than I have though. It's just funny when people look forward to seeing you do something a little extra special

Sounds like fun, Cynthia, glad you had a good time. Guess it would be kind of fun to dress up for an antique show, too.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

Funny that way. I invited a friend and colleague into town at the end of last week to give a memorial lecture, and as part of that we had a nice dressy but way below black tie dinner Thursday night after his arrival. Then of course his lecture Friday morning, where I had to gussy up as well as I was doing the remembrance of the person in whose memory the lecture was being given, then introducing my friend as the invited guest speaker. This is a friend who has joined us at the Kentucky Derby and other events where I have been dressy kilted, and he was honestly surprised that I did not kilt up for either the dinner or the lecture the next day. I told him that the events were both about him as well as the person the lecture was in memory of and that they were to be the central topics of discussion---I was not about to risk stealing anybody's thunder. He understood completely, but you could see he was at least a little bit disappointed.

Know exactly where you are coming from.
